General Questions/New to Joomla! 4.x • Category Images: #joomlaImage://local-images/ --> no longer displaying

Earlier this year I upgraded from Joomla 3.x to 4.4.5.

This week, I was trying to organize things better and thought that I'd combine all of the Category images (/images) into a single directory (/images/categories).

After doing so and saving each category image, I found that Joomla automatically made changes in "Articles: Edit Category --> Options" in the following manner:

images/county.jpg --> became:
images/categories/county.jpg#joomlaImage://local-images/categories/county.jpg?width=640&height=320

I don't know why it automatically changed the format. But it is causing a problem.

1) The images show fine in the Category Editor
2) But the images do not display elsewhere on the site anymore where they are to display as the default Category image

I checked file/directory permissions, ownership etc. but cannot figure out why they no longer will not display elsewhere.

Any ideas what is going on? Is there something in the above format that needs to change?
